The second acquisition is in the area of supply chain automation, with Baltimore-based Apkudo acquiring Indiana-based Mobile reCell, a company focused on corporate-owned IT asset recovery. The acquisition was likely driven by Mobile reCell’s ownership of automation software, putting Mobile reCell as a new business unit for Enterprise Take-Back. The acquisition makes sense as Apkudo seeks to enhance its device tracking platform from the time such device begins its primary lifecycle to its recycling. However, the size of Apkudo means that the company is far from benefiting from economies of scales. The company employs less than 50 staff and generates less than $25 million in revenue. Established in 2010, the company is relatively young and considering its size, it will likely be challenged in growing into large enterprise accounts where its services should be welcomed. However, the company is making inroads in innovative platforms and should be able to grow at relatively moderate pace, assuming proper go-to-market strategies are applied.
